Wow. There’s nothing we love more than Marvel/DC superhero movies with interlaced story lines and this year there’s more than enough! That’s why we picked 5 of the best for you to check out. Hello, Year of the Comic Book Hero!

Let’s be honest, Deadpool kicked off this year of superhero movies with a seemingly unbeatable bang.  Breaking $619.3 million at the box office to be precise! So let’s just thank Deadpool first for setting the fantastic standard for 2016.

For those who can’t wait to see comic book characters to come to life, sit back and enjoy the year. Here are 5 of the best superhero movies that’ll be well worth your Friday night!

1. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

What we have to say: Already holding our breath for the moment the son of Krypton clashes with Gotham’s dark night (I sense a Team Affleck vs Team Cavill war coming soon)! The movie, while very different from its comic book counterpart, promises more than enough action-packed sequences!

What makes this even more epic is the fact that it introduces some other famous DC Comics heroes (hello Wonder Woman!) that’ll join the The Justice League (set for release in 2017). Definitely our go-to date if Mr. Awesome rocks up in time and still a worthy girls-date if he’s too busy dreaming about us.

Release date: 24 March 2016

2. Suicide Squad

What we have to say: It seems like superheroes aren’t always the answer? Sometimes, extreme situations require extreme measures. Like a Suicide Squad filled with super-villains from both the Marvel and the DC universe to save the world?! Like Deadpool, this movie is all badass, building on the comic book missions of the so-called ‘Task Force X’.

Dunno about you, but I’m reserving my seat asap to see if super-villains can follow through with saving the world from Jared Leto’s creepy candy coating as the new Joker.

Release date: 5 August 2016 (USA)

What we have to say: What happens when you force superheroes to register with the government? The third instalment of the Captain America franchise tackles this scenario.

In addition to welcoming the Avengers back, the thing that fans can’t wait to see here is that Spiderman finally joins the other avengers.  Also, we’ll get to see what the new heroes (like Black Panther aka T’Challa) brings to the franchise! Plus, who doesn’t want to see Captain America and Ironman finally settle their beef with each other?

Release date: 5 May 2016 (USA)

4. X-men Apocalypse

What we have to say: X-men Apocalypse, a.k.a ‘how Professor X lost all his hair!’. The X-men series really has no problem flipping story lines and rebooting of characters, making them real rollercoasters of suspense. And after the huge success of X-men: days of future past, we’re ready to rush to the cinemas for even more plot twists.

In this new instalment, the X-men have their work cut out for them. The movie features the resurrection of Apocalypse, believed to have been the first mutant ever. With powers like telekinesis, flight, teleportation and superhuman strength….yeah he’s pretty much invincible. Good luck people.

Release date: 27 May 2016 (USA)

Move over Harry Potter, here comes one of the most powerful sorcerers in existence! A little under the radar compared to mainstream superheroes, the arrival of Doctor Strange has Marvel fans bouncing out of their seats. Introducing magic for the first time in the Marvel Movies, Doctor Strange promises to be fresh and fascinating.

So if you want more story and less punching, this would be our pick for you. Also, the doctor will be played by none other than Benedict Cumberbatch! Be still our beating hearts!
