Former Miss SA winner tells us how she got into the Media industry right after studying and why she never became the vet she dreamed of as a kid.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you were all grown up and why?
Nicole Flint: A Veterinarian – I adore animals and thought that that’s going to be my way of contributing.
How do you feel about that now?
Nicole Flint: I would have still liked to be a vet, but I think I’d be too attached to my “patients”.
Did you have a specific career path in mind at the end of high school?
Nicole Flint: Not really, I was so scared because I didn’t really want to take a gap year. All my friends knew exactly what they were going to study and where, which made it even more difficult for me! I knew by the time I was in matric that becoming a vet was just a dream. I wanted to be in media!
If you did, did you do something specific to make that dream happen during high school?
Nicole Flint: I took part in everything media, public speaking, drama etc.
Did you apply for any tertiary education courses after high school? If so, where and why?
Nicole Flint: Yes, I studied Television and radio presenting and media.
What did you eventually do right after high school?
Nicole Flint: I did exactly what I wanted to do! I really am blessed to have joined Jacaranda 94.2 straight after studying!
Are you happy with the choices you made following high school and why/ why not?
Nicole Flint: I am. I would still like to further my studies, you are never too old to learn!
Any advice you would give this year’s grade 11’s and matrics on their after-high-school plans?
Nicole Flint: Try to do what you love and what you’re good at. That way it feels like it’s not really work, but something that you’re passionate about! I would hate to do something that I don’t enjoy!
